Celtic’s Under-11D had their first outing under their new manager in their new format after the realignment of teams. It was always going to be a tough assignment and so it proved. Away to local rivals St Mochta’s FC, Celtic after some early pressure from the home side got the perfect lift when some wizardry from Rei Mulligan saw the Celtic veteran thread an amazing ball through to Celtic’s big striker Jerome Powell who powered his way forward before rifling past the Mochta’s keeper who was to give a brilliant display in the home team’s goal.
Mochta’s struck back with a triple salvo which gave them a 3-1 lead. Niall Maloney had to make a couple of fine saves to prevent further goals in the first half. His 2 full backs, Oliver Moore and Joe Martin, were putting on a great performance at the back, and indeed it was Oliver Moore who was to be given the player of the match accolade for his commitment and skill. He has to share the award with Joe and Rei who were majestic on the day. Marcus Clinton was again putting in a big shift with his tireless running. Sebastian Balaban showed some great commitment and skill, along with his brother Kevin who took over in goal for the second half which released Niall to take up a striker’s role. Kenan joined the midfield in the first half and he did good link-up play between his defence and attack.
A fabulous piece of work on the right by Rei in that second half, as he weaved past numerous Mochta’s midfielders, saw him cross to Niall in the box, and he laid it off for Andrew who planted his shot in the net.
At the other end, Jerome had taken up defensive duties and his performance was magnificent as he helped stop many Mochta’s attacks. There was one final piece of action for Celtic which involved the ubiquitous Rei. He produced some more magic before getting a well deserved goal, which was the culmination of his brilliant performance, being provider for both other Celtic goals, and his overall contribution to a commendable team performance. Back to training in Porterstown on Monday at 6pm. See you all there and well done to you all.
Celtic's Under-11E were at home to Portmarnock who displayed great team work and posed a serious challenge to the home side. Celtic put in a tireless display by all 9 players. The lads never gave up, chased and tackled relentlessly, and there were no lost causes. Celtic did not deserve to lose by 4 goals. Ethan Hoey put the home side 1-0 up in the first 5 mins and the team appeared to be well in control but a fortuitous equaliser changed the course of match. Denis was faultless in goal for the 1st half. Portmarnock seemed to be able to do no wrong in the 2nd half where Ethan, taking over in goal for the 2nd half, made several outstanding full length saves. The Celtic boys gave everything to the cause which made the management and spectators very proud of them.
