This was high-octane entertainment from start to finish. Celtic were stung by 3 early goals, and it could have been worse if Rhys McLoughlin was not in splendid form keeping Cabinteely at bay. Marcus Clinton scored a fabulous goal which kept Celtic in touch (action).
It got worse for Celtic however as Cabo turned the screw. But Celtic kept battling on, and they went within a whisker when man of the match, Marcus, combined with Andrew Maguire whose shot was saved excellently by the Cabo keeper (action).
The second half saw the play ebb and flow. Celtic’s comeback started 10 minutes after the break as Joe Martin took one for the team when a bullet from the Cabo striker crashed into the Celtic full back. He shrugged it off and battled on. Marcus Clinton broke forward but again the Cabo keeper was magnificent, but Marcus fought to regain possession and he set up James Cremin who shot brilliantly, but alas it whizzed past the left hand post (action).
Sadjo Barry was involved with most of Celtic’s attacks at this stage, and he broke into the box following James’s pass. Sadjo made no mistake placing the ball to the right of the Cabo keeper (action). Sadjo was again on the mark when he again beat the keeper (action).
Celtic had to do some desperate defending, and it was Oliver Moore who was putting in some bone-shaker tackles. Kenan Tutundzic continued his recent good form at full back. Kevin Balaban was again strong in defence, while Joe Martin set up many attacks with his clearances. Niall Maloney made many surging runs forward and he put in a number of menacing crosses. Sebastian Balaban combined well with his midfield colleagues. But it was Marcus Clinton who had the last word when he jinked his way forward and went at the heart of the Cabo defence. He even had the energy after running the length of the pitch to shoot low and hard to the keeper’s right hand side (action). So it ended with victory to the visitors, but full credit to both sides, including the full squad of Celtic players who all gave 100 per cent throughout the game. It was a splendid advert for schoolboy soccer, and full marks to the visiting coach who was truly sporting throughout.
