14A Sat: Celtic back to winning ways. 5-2
Celtic got back to winning ways with home win over close rivals Mount Merrion 5-2
After cup disappointment last week, Celtic was back playing the first league game since the summer break.
They welcomed Mount Merrion who is siting in the third position on the table right behind the host. Celtic had only two defeats in the league so far this season and one of them was by visiting side.
Celtic started as a better team and after only 5 minutes were ahead. Good neat play in the middle of the pitch by midfield trio McCormick, Best and Dervisic created the first chance for Caffrey who calmly slotted the ball behind keepers back for 1-0.
Just few minutes later home side were 2-0 up. Quick play from the back by centre-halves Doherty and de Bhutain put Dervisic on the run from the midfield who played through ball for Caffrey who again was faster then visiting defence for his second of the game.
Visiting team tried to play football and passed the ball very well but unfortunately for them without the end product.
Good defending by Liam Hosford has seen Best pushing forward and with perfectly timed through pass he found Odusole who hammered the ball in the net for 3-0. It was only 15 minutes on the clock.
Ever reliable defensive midfield Olti Berisha was covering all the pitch with his runs and every time there was a pressure on the back four he was there to protect them from penetrating passes. Visitors were trying to shift the ball quickly to the flanks but full backs Kacem Touhri and Luca Ursache were there to stop them.
Celtic continued to play quick passing football forward and after another great run from the midfield by Dervisic, Caffrey found himself in the 1 v 1 situation and there was no mistake 4-0 and hat-trick for the big striker.
Mount Merrion did pull one goal back before Odusole scored his second of the day right at the half time 5-1.
Second half was a bit less intense and Celtic were keeping the ball well and hoping to see the game out. Visitors continued to play their passing game and the good play was awarded by heir second goal 5-2.
Celtic had few more chances through Craig Hughes and Ciaran Murray but the goal keeper came out on the top. Home team made few changes and Hammad Siddiqui went at the back to offer extra protection. His calmness on the ball helped the rest of the team to get settled and to see the game out.
It is worth to mention Sabin Ghet who was back in the goal after injury and still managed to pull off some vital saves even though he couldn't kick the ball as a result of the sore groin.
Good win for the Celts in highly entertaining game and credit to the visitors who played some fantastic football.
