Castleknock Celtic showed great spirit at home to Cabinteely. Thomas O’Donoghue set the tone early on, leading the line up front and testing Cabinteely with his speed and skill whipping in some great balls and corners to his supporting midfield players Gavin Peters, Anthony Clarke and Hakim. CCFC were unfortunate not to take the lead with all three midfielders coming close. Saul O'Brien came from midfield showing his strong running ability and was unlucky with a close range effort. Cabinteely took the lead with a fortunate goal coming from a corner.
CCFC regrouped and set out for an equaliser. Celtic midfield showed composure and passing ability leading to a well worked equaliser from Hakim. match action Unfortunately for CCFC just before the break Cabinteely got a second, worried faces all around as the heads dropped, however, this was short lived. CCFC rolled up their sleeves and chased every ball, a team spirt took over, and, the boys worked as a team helping each other out, Gavin Peters, Michael Kelly, and Denis Diac ran the legs off themselves, Brierton Murphy and Daniel Cryan organised their defence and gave it their all in a brave display of defending. Anthony Cooke who was superb in midfield switched to goalkeeper. After some fine keeping in the first half Ethan went outfield to show us some of his neat skills as an outfield player, while Saul, Denis & Michael showed their adaptability rotating from midfield to defence. Everyone rowing in. The hard work paid off when Hakim got his second. This team was not finished, a special mention to Mirav Vaitha who played right side of the pitch seemed to be everywhere. Mirav's performance summed up the spirit of the day, he chased every ball near him, winning the ball for CCFC numerous times and tracking back picking up players, his never-give-in attitude fed into the others and 3 mins from time CCFC got a winner when Hakim completed his hat-trick. Well deserved lads, a great day's work, and we now look forward to an away game to complete the season next Saturday away to St Mochta's in the final local derby of the year.
