Thank you so much to all who made this such a huge success, thanks to the Man Upstairs who blessed us with fabulous weather. A special thanks to David Hughes who has master-minded this event and made it the 'Must-Attend' event of the year annually. This is the 9th year we have been running the Mini World Cup and everyone looks forward to it. Full report on event below.

SCORCHING SUN AND EVEN HOTTER FOOTBALL AS IRELANDS FUTURE STARS TURN ON STYLE AT CASTLEKNOCK CELTIC MINI WORLD CUP
What a week!!! And we don’t just mean the weather ‘cause the FOOTBALL was Hot too. It was certainly a case of the COSTA DEL CASTLEKNOCK in Porterstown where the setting was Sunshine, Barbecues and scintillating Football as Ireland and Castkleknock’s future stars displayed their footballing prowess.
In total 370 Boys & Girls representing 36 Countries (over 6 age Groups – 8 to 13) entertained the nightly attendance of well over 800 people. What a sight it was – all 370 children playing EVERY night looking splendid in their colourful JAKO attire as Parents and Supporters basked in the sunshine. The football was end to end and the Park was alive to all the “Ooh’s” and “Aah’s” everywhere as goals were scored, saves were made, all allied to “Messiesque” touches and John Terry like crunching tackles.
Given the sterling efforts of all the Boys and Girls not to mention the entertainment we witnessed it was only fitting that all the teams made it to Finals Day on Saturday. And what a day it was – more sunshine, more wonderful football and most importantly more smiling faces. Once the football was over, our heroes who had entertained us all week received their rewards – a huge ovation from their supporters followed by a trophy presentation with accompanying goodie bags – there were sweets (sorry Parents), Jerseys, Footballs, Toys and the usual surprise Gift which brought even more “Ooh’s” and “Aah’s” from Supporters and Players alike.
When all our Junior Members had played their finals we were treated to a battle royale in the Senior Final (U13) where in the final game (of 104 played) the Boys from Brazil held on to beat a talented Denmark team 2-1.
All in all a wonderful week with the Footballing Gods smiling on us all with such wonderful weather. While for sure the weather helped the success of this wonderful week, it was due to the Team of Volunteers who work tirelessly behind the scenes not just during the week but in the weeks prior to the event. We say TEAM ‘cause that’s what it is – like on the pitch “All for one and one for All”. Every year the objective remains the same – make sure the Boys & Girls have fun. The smiling faces on Saturday told its own story – Mission Accomplished.
And so from all at Castleknock Celtic FC a BIG THANK YOU to our Volunteers, to the Parents & Supporters but most importantly to all the Boys & Girls who took part. Until next year, have a great summer and enjoy that other World Cup in Russia!!!!!
