Tired legs cost Celtic dearly.
Castleknock Celtic took the the field in fine form after a 7 game unbeaten run. Celtic started the match with all 7 available players taking to the pitch. It was an end to end game and Celtic were unlucky on a number of occasions, Pearse Rangers putting up a stern defense. Jesse Okpetu was keeping goal with Gideon Durojaiyue and Captain Fantastic Dylan Thompson playing in defense. Ross Kennedy, Owen Boyle and Dylan Coyne took position in midfield with Eoghan Smithers leading the line. It was against the run of play when Pearse took the lead, scoring direct from a corner. Castleknock kept pressing and were creating chances of their own, Gideon Durojaiye being found on many occasions to stop his runs through the midfield. Dylan Coyne came close with a free, deflected wide and then Pearse cleared off the line from a Gideon Dyrojaiye shot. So 1-0 at half time and a well earned rest.
The second half started and again both teams were playing good football, however as the half wore on Pearse Rangers, with 5 substitutes available started to get on top with more energy. Jesse Okpetu was unlucky with a fine save but unfortunately the rebound fell to a Pearse Rangers striker who was very alert and finished calmly into the bottom right corner. Owen Boyle was again finding some neat passes in midfield, linking up play. Gideon was felled again but knew he had to stay on for his team mates. Brave play indeed. With Castleknock pressing for a goal Pearse Rangers broke upfield following a boom of a kick out from their impressive goalkeeper. A super finish from their striker and 3-0 it was. Castleknock continued to try play through the pitch but their legs gave way in the end. It was an unlucky scoreline for the effort the 7 players put in but a deserved victory in the end for the away team.
Man of the match today was Dylan Thompson who, playing in defence for the first time, showed some great composure on the ball and excellent first touches to create time and space for himself. Well done and see you all Monday.
