Celtic made it through to the League Cup final after an extra time win away to league winners-elect Peamount Utd. The winning goal came six minutes from the end of the 20 minutes extra time when Jordan Whelan shrugged off a strong challenge to slip the ball past the Peamount keeper. It was no more than Celtic deserved, after coming close on several occasions during normal time and through sheer hard work kept at bay a Peamount team who have been free scoring in league games. Celtic have reached the final the hard way with 3 rounds going to extra time and 2 rounds going to penalties. Congratulations to Saif, Alex Ryan, Jack Donatus, Liam O'Malley, Colm Ayres, Jordan Whelan, Kelvin Alannah Maxwell, Jonathan, and Sean. They now prepare for their Cup Final clash with Celtic's Under-12D1 who won through with their victory over Knocklyon in Porterstown by 2-1.
Meantime in Porterstown, Celtic's 12D1 were battling it out with Knocklyon Utd. Despite falling behind, 2 Franc Vincent Ajuonoma goals gave them the narrowest of leads, and they had to fight tooth and nail to hold on to it. Everyone was required to put their shoulder to the wheel and they did exactly that. Knocklyon launched attack after attack, but were repelled by an indomitable spirit in this team. It was almost impossible to choose a man of the match. Any one of the boys and girls on the team was a contender, none more so than Franc. However, this reporter named Darragh Bermingham for the award for his fantastic work rate and battling qualities which were absolutely necessary against a tough Knocklyon outfit. Well done boys and girls, and we are salivating in anticipation of a great day in May when the 12D will play the 12D1. match action
