On the back of 3 wins in a row Castleknock travelled out to St. Anne’s Park and the lads were in flying form starting the match. The first half got on well with Clontarf barely getting a look in. Castleknock delivered attack after attack with Charlie Boles and Marcus Clinton leading the front lines. Backed up by Saul O’Brien, Oisin Dunne, Ben Thomson and Patrick Buie the Clontarf goalkeeper was kept busy. Castleknock were first to score with great determination from Charlie Boles to fire through the defence and keep his cool to slot the ball in to the back of the net. Clontarf got out of their half a couple of times bringing Alex Matthews, Fred Mutawe, Mustafa Chalawi and Cillian Dockry in to action to break up their play with the added security of Ethan Hoey in the goal. Special mention to Cillian at right back for breaking down a barge of 5 players just before half time to stop a very strong Clontarf attack. First half finished 1-0 to Castleknock.
Clontarf came out stronger in the second half pushing back against Castleknock. Castleknock showed some great one touch passing to move the ball quick around the pitch rewarded by a goal that Barcelona would be proud of. Started by Mustafa fighting for the ball in the centre mid, playing it up to Charlie who took one touch to lay it off to Zach Kinsella who played it through to Oleg Sinkevics and Oleg as usual slotted away Castleknock’s second.Clontarf answered quick when Castleknock lost focus and fired in two quick goals in succession to bring the game level. Castleknock got the next when Eoin Behan fought hard to win Castleknock a corner. Patrick took the corner and Oleg again was there to score a second for him and Castleknocks 3rd putting them back in the lead. Some amazing defending from Ben Thomson kept Clontarf out as long as he could making 3 brilliant last defender tackles. Unfortunately for Castleknock it was Clontarf who got a second wind and fired two more goals through the Castleknock defence when tensions were running high for the boys. The final score was 5-3 to Clontarf. Man of the Match went to Ben Thomson for his brilliant determination and playing right until the end regardless of the score line. Onwards and Upwards for next week for the lads.
