Castleknock Celtic (Under-19/20s) 3 - Templeogue United (Premier Division) 1.
Templeogue took an early lead after 10mins with a terrific 25-yard free-kick from outside the box. Despite falling behind, Castleknock continued to press but could not find the equalizer. Oisin O’Donoghue (in the Castleknock goal) also made numerous fine saves to keep the score at 1-0 at half-time.
3 mins into the 2nd half, David Onitiu continued his recent goal scoring run with a superb curling shot from the edge of the box into the top corner of the net, to make it 1-1. Castleknock then dominated as the 2nd half progressed and eventually took a 2-1 lead after 85mins. Luke Danaher broke down the wing, crossed over brilliantly into the execution zone to Thomas McDonnell who put away the 2nd goal with aplomb as he bravely broke through the TU central defence (see goal). As Templeogue chased the equalizer and committed more players forward, Thomas McDonnell capitalized on a defensive error as the keeper misjudged the bounce and the ball skidded off his head into the path of the Celtic striker. Thomas once again applied the finishing touch (see goal), this time in the last minute to make it a final score of 3-1. A great competitive performance by each and every player (including all 4 subs) earning the squad a well deserved place in the Final on 31st May in the Transport Club Crumlin where they will face GMFC. A special recognition is due to coach Alex Regan who took sole charge of the team tonight (in Bob Fagan's absence) and had the team extremely well prepared for this semi-final. Did someone mention the job on the English South coast with the Seagulls - go on Alex, give it a go.
