After a very long 2013/14 season, Castleknock Celtic U19 squad finally lifted the AFL\\AUL league title in Porterstown Park on Sunday 11th May by beating St Malachys\\Edenmore 2:1 in their final league game. What made this victory even more satisfying was the fact that St Malachys\\Edenmore were one point ahead of Castleknock Celtic going into the game and had recently beaten Celtic on penalties in the Lee Brothers Cup Final in the AUL Complex in Clonshaugh.
This squad, which was brought together by managers Freddie Murphy and Philip Zambra for the first time this season, contains 10 players who were U18 and are therefore eligible to play in this league next season and who won 18 out of 20 league games to win the league by 2 points. The 18 players all played a vital role throughout the season and all should feel rightly proud of their achievement. Manager Freddie Murphy summed up the feelings when he said: I am so delighted for this bunch of lads as the effort and commitment they showed throughout the season was an example to all. To win it on the last day against our biggest rivals shows true character and determination. I hope they can bring that spirit forward with them when they go on to represent the club at Senior level.
