Ashbourne 1 Castleknock Celtic 0
Celtic made the short journey to Co. Meath and took part in one of the last ever fixtures at
Baltrasna before Ashbourne move to new grounds in the coming weeks. Whilst it might
have been the end of an era in Ashbourne, for Celtic it was just the end of our unbeaten start
to the season.
Celtic found themselves under pressure from the start and didn’t have a meaningful foray
into the Ashbourne half for almost 15 minutes. As the half progressed, Celtic did get to
grips with Ashbourne and as half time approached Celtic were very much in the game. But
disaster struck just before half time. Celtic gave away possession far too easily on the half
way line, allowed Ashbourne move the ball forward with a couple of quick passes before
they shot to the back of the Celtic net.
The second half was very much a 50/50 affair, played mainly in the middle third of the pitch
with very little goal mouth action. Celtic did a have a couple of half chances but couldn’t
capitalise on them.
Despite losing their unbeaten run, it has been a good start to the season. Both players and
management are looking forward to their next game and getting back to winning ways.
