It was billed as the Battle of the Celts when Castleknock Celtic took on Booth Road Celtic on in Greenpark. The pitch had amazingly survived the deluge of the previous 24 hours. The visitors were reduced to 9 players at kick off, so it was going to be a challenge to get a result. And so it proved to be. Castleknock fell 2 behind within 10 minutes and the challenge was very real. It got even worse just after the break when the home side looked out of sight with their third goal.
The visitors dug deep and it was Calum Daly who gave them a lifeline. He broke forward and when he saw the white of the keeper's eyes in a one-on-one, he slotted home. They had to be alert in defence where Calin Doherty, Dominic Odujebe, Theo Hennessy and Andrei Ungureanu put in a fantastic performance, keeping the home side scoreless for most of the second half. Castleknock kept to their task and got the reward of a second goal when Dominic seized on his opportunity when he drifted into the opposition box and picked his spot to bring his side within a goal. Arran O'Reilly's pace in the middle of the park and Andrei breaking forward was causing the opposition problems. Ronan Wells was putting in a man of the match performance, and was unlucky with his shot on goal from a free kick in the first half. It was important that Castleknock did not concede again, and James Whooley in goal made sure of this. However, despite Celtic's best efforts to earn a draw, including Aidan Thom going close with his attempts on goal and Calum Daly's effort to score his seconf, the home side held on for a narrow victory. Full marks to Castleknock's troopers who gave it everything they had, but alas they ended up losing 2-3.
