Wayside Celtic 0 Castleknock Celtic 0

The winter break provided no obstacle for the Castleknock team who braved the conditions in Kilternan to follow up their impressive performance at the Friendship Cup last week, to secure a solid draw against Wayside and extend their unbeaten run to 3 games.

On a bumpy & uneven surface, Castleknock's natural passing game was disrupted to necessitate a more industrial approach to the early exchanges. The defensive 3 of Callum Oliphant, Tom Maxwell & Sam Doherty controlled the Wayside forays into the Castleknock half...with the usual comfort of knowing that Goalkeeper Sabin Ghet was back between the posts following the brief absence through sickness.

With Alex Moore playing in a lone striker role, the visitors had only a few chances to breach the Wayside defences, and we were left to reflect on only a few half chances created by Scott Daly in the first half.

As the match wore on, the midfield engine of Luca Hunt, Klevis Malaj, & Great Imole started to gain more control over the Wayside midfield framework, and it was only a smart save from the Wayside keeper that denied Scott a long distance winner from just under the bar.

Adam Nolan produced some fine crosses and delivery in the second half, that threatened a winner again, but after a serious knock to Alex after 50 minutes, Castleknock were restricted to a few set piece chances that they were ultimately unable to convert.

Credit to Wayside for a tough, competitive match that was a credit to both clubs on a cold and frosty morning under the Dublin Mountains.

Celtic Under 12s are up and running for the 2nd half of the season and will be a very tough side to beat over the coming months.
