Celtic will be flattered by the margin of their victory against Drogheda Boys in Porterstown in the Harmon Cup. The home side went ahead on 4 mins when Nomah Eredianu got possession 20 yards out to the right of the box, and he curled his shot in over the keeper – a beautiful shot indeed. However, the ideal start was not built on, and Drogheda were to compete well for almost three-quarters of the game, and could easily have drawn level. Their luck was out however, when an error in the Celtic defence just went wide. Then 15 mins into the second half, Michael McDonnell gained possession in the middle of the park. He raced forward and rounded the keeper before slotting home. action. So instead of being level, the Drogs were 2 down.
This was followed 7 mins later by a moment of pure magic. Nomah flicked the ball up and from 20 yards out, he volleyed into the roof of the net which had the spectators salivating. 3-0 to Celtic. The game was virtually over.
However, it got worse for the visitors. Drogheda introduced their replacement keeper and he had the misfortune to mishit his clearance. The ball ran to Nomah who seized on his chance to complete his hat-trick to give Celtic a 4-0 victory and a place in the 3rd round of the cup.
