Castleknock Celtic 2 - 2 Lucan United
WOWZER. What a game that was. The strong wind did not dampen the performance of Castleknock Celtic as they played a great game of football against a plucky Lucan United. With Declan O’M captaining the side, we knew there would be plenty of energy and gusto in the performance. A right from the off Castleknock were up for it. The team lined up with Jesse O in goal, Ross K, Eoghan S, Declan O’M and Richard O sharing defensive duties, Owen B, Daniel O and Dylan C in midfield and Gideon D leading the line. “Falcao”, Gideon told the coach, “that’s who I will play like today”. Falcao of Brazil, hoped the coach, not Falcao of Man U. And Falcao of Brazil it turned out to be. Right from the off Castleknock were on the front foot. Declan O’M with a slide rule pass to Gideon D and BOOM 1-0 before you could get to your seats. With confidence up Castleknock pressed and Owen B in space on the left unlucky with a shot just wide of the post. Next up was Dylan C who was put through by Gideon and cool as you like, SLAM 2-0. Castleknock were rampant and any attack Lucan had was taken care of by Richard, Declan, Ross and Eoghan. Castleknock had many overloads in attack with 3 v 1 but too often took the wrong option. Not to worry, they were playing great football. Daniel was driving forward at every opportunity on the left wing, unlucky a couple of times with his passing.
So half time and 2-0. Keep playing football and enjoy it was the message. With the strong wind Lucan came forward and hit the post early on. Soon after Gideon had a 1 v 1 which the keeper did well to save. Owen B in but the keeper saved his turn and shot. Then Lucan pushed forward and scored, 2-1 and their confidence was up. From the kick off Gideon passed to Dylan, quick 1-2 and Gideon was on his way, just blocked as he was about to shoot. Lucan were pressing but Castleknock still had good chances to score. Gideon with a superb pass into space took out 4 Lucan players, and Dylan C through, it had to be…... and keeper saves. Then Lucan with a run on the right scored with a ping pong goal. 2-2 and game on. From the kick off deja vu in reverse, Dylan to Gideon, quick 1-2 and Dylan through after jinking past 3 players, in on goal but shot wide. So 2-2 it finished, a fantastic performance from Castleknock and played in the right spirit against a nice group of players from Lucan.
Well then where do we start on that performance. Great positional display from all players. Great movement of the ball with overlaps and support runs. Great tackling too. Jesse's distribution was first class and all players were looking to get on the ball. Man of the Match was tough to call. Gideon D was in fine form with a goal and an assist, Declan O’M raising his game from last week's strong performance. In fact he was so good some people thought it was his older brother Liam on the pitch!!!! But Man of the Match goes to the kid with the skills who kept driving the team forward. One skill in particular had both side lines purring with delight (fake to pass, windmill stepover and behind the leg drag through). We will call it "The Dylan" from now on. Skinned his player and put in a great cross too. Well done Dylan , MOTM.
