Catre The Magnificent from Planet Kebosch leads the way as Celtic hit 8
After producing more comebacks than Rocky Balboa and Frank Sinatra combined the Castleknock players and management were looking for some normality as they travelled to Dunshaughlin on a bright spring morning. The Celts thanks to a mixture of injury and suspension were down to 12 players. Still the game represented the chance for other players to get more game time and force their way into the starting line up on a permanent basis.
It was Dunshaughlin, playing with the confidence of a top 3 team, who started the stronger as Celtic defended into a strong wind. As the game settled down so did Celtic. Reverting to their early season 3-5-2 formation that served them well they used the width of the pitch particularly down the right where James Davy was literally “buzzing”. With 25 minutes gone Celtic took the lead. A Narcis Catre gem of a corner was touched home by the alert Cian Galvin 1-0. The breakthrough goal and with it immediate dominance. However it took until the last play of the half to score a second. A ball from the left hung up in the air and the Dunshaughlin defender facing the wrong way played the ball past the keeper and while it hit the bat the alert Liam O’ Neill was on hand to touch it in. 2-0 but it was more than a goal as it appeared to completely deflate Dunshaughlin. HT: 2—0.
Facing into a strong wind Dunshaughlin faced an uphill task. A task that became nearly impossible when Adam Rahaman made it three. A Catre corner was headed back across the goal by the immaculate Marty Gedominas (is there a better centre back in the league) where Rahaman volleyed the ball home with power and relish. Soon after Davy made it four with a cool calm finish with Catre again the provider.
A fifth duly came – Catre made a run down the left before playing the ball to Luke Mulcahy who beat his marker before unleashing a shot that beat the keeper but came back off the post but Davy was on hand to finish from 6 yards out. 5-0.
More was to come. Catre was again the instigator as his menacing corner was headed into the net by the unfortunate Dunshaughlin player. 6-0. Incredibly Catre had another assist when another corner was met by a spectacular overhead kick by Alex Regan that brought a great save from the keeper but Regan reacted fastest to force the ball home. Regan rounded off the scoring following good work by Catre and Peter Germaine 8-0.
A wonderful result against a team that had beaten the Celts in Porterestown. There was positive news everywhere for the Coaches – a clean sheet for Eoin Farnham whose distribution was excellent, Adam Rahaman, who has missed a lot of football with illness and injury, was outstanding, James Davy did what we know he can do which is terrorise defences, Alex Regan and Luke Mulcahy were non-stop dynamos, Daniel Hughes looked very comfortable as a wing back while the welcome return of Sean Costelloe definitely stabilised the team. Messrs Devlin, Emara, Laffey and Keane you have been warned - the gauntlet has been thrown down for places.
Man of the Match – for sure Davy and Rahaman were up there but how could you not give it to Narcis- he had five assists and was involved in seven of the eight goals. The lad is a loony and we have no idea what planet he is on but like a lot of lunatics he can also be a genius and today was definitely one of those days – magnificent.
