Celtic good form continues with comprehensive win”
After last weeks performance places on this Celtic team where hard to come by but injury and unavailability allowed those who missed last week to lay a stake a claim to be in the starting eleven as they face Tolka Rovers.
From the off Celtic were in control as they sought to build on last weeks performance. With 15 minutes on the clock Celtic took a deserved lead. Sean Costello, with tremendous commitment, won a ball that he should never have won to release Liam O’ Neill who beat the offside and his first time shot deceived the Tolka keeper 0-1. Despite Celtic’s dominance Tolka served notice of their potential when they broke only to be denied by a fine double save by Celtic stand in keeper Alex Regan.
Despite this Celtic remained the dominant team and soon after O’ Neill made it two with a touch of individual brilliance and a shot from 20 yards that hit the roof of the net. The in form O’ Neill nearly had a hat trick when his flick from a Peter Germaine corner narrowly missed the near corner. At this stage Tolka clearly felt the only way to stop the inform Celtic was to increase their physicality which resulted in the concession of a lot of free kicks. With 30 minutes gone Celtic scored a third. James Davy who was terrorising the Tolka defence set up Costello who coolly and calmly fired home from 15 yards. 0 - 3. Minutes later it was four – Narcis Catre broke down the left on a mazy run before whipping in an inch perfect cross to Davy who made a difficult chance look easy with a classy finish. HT 0-4.
At half time Omar Emara took over from Regan in goals but it was more of the same. Celtic playing the football and Tolka, when not chasing shadows, leaving their mark on Celtic. More frees, more chances but unfortunately no more goals due to a combination of good goal keeping by the Tolka No 1 and overplaying on Celtics part who seemed intent on walking the ball into the net. Some heavy challenges resulted in the loss of Daniel Hughes and Luke Mulcahy, who both had put in good performances, to injury. The last 10 minutes saw the game peter out as it and became a physical contest with tackles flying in everywhere. FT: 0-4.
Another win, another clean sheet to make it 5 wins out of 6 since January. They are climbing the table with an outside chance of a top 3 position plus a Cup Quarter final to look forward to. Rob Laffey, Cian Galvin and Eoin Farnham are due back next week while Wayne Deegan will be back soon. Can they dislodge the current starting 11? Who knows but more competition for places can only be a good thing as we approach the business end of the season. If these lads just let their football do the talking anything can happen between now and the end of May
