The final game of the season for Castleknock Celtic’s U13c against East Meath was played out in Porterstown Park on Sunday 17th May. It started as a tense affair as the pressure was on Celtic to win in order to gain promotion next season. All players knew what was required of them and came out fighting, displaying an impressive level of fitness throughout the match.
The initial challenge came from Kelvin Oriwe, who was taken down in the box and was awarded a penalty. Ahmed Ombali stepped up and confidently secured the first score of the match. As the match progessed, the midfield of Saif Ijaz, Jonathon McAdam, Henry Owade and Luke Murphy impressed and they dominated midfield. Following a scuffle in the box, Celtic was awarded a corner from which Donatus Nweke secured an impressive 2nd goal for Celtic. Matthew Roberts worked tirelessly upfront and his efforts were rewarded with Celtic’s third goal just before the break.
Following the half time pep talk East Meath returned to the pitch with renwed vigour and applied pressure in the Celtic half. Alex Curran, Jack Murphy, Ryan Fitzmaurice kept their focus and constantly frustrated the East Meath frontline. Christian Guerin fiercely and skilfully guarded the Celtic goal through-out the game. He saw off an East Meath forward on a one to one encounter and made a brilliant save in the first half. East Meath just managed one goal throughout the game .
Meanwhile, Celtic did not rest on their laurels. Liam O’ Malley sent a powerful ball down the left- wing which was cleverly controlled by Colm Ayres. Colm threaded it through to Kelvin Oriwe who found the net once more. Despite their impressive lead, the Celts continued to fight on with Jordan Whelan just narrowly missing out on another goal when he hit the post in the closing stages of the match.
Obviously, the Castleknock Celtic U13C team were delighted with the 4-1 win and this victory guarantees promotion to the NDSL B-division next season. This team joined the NDSL in D-division. In October 2014, they were re-graded to the C-division following a number of impressive wins. The hard work they put in at training has paid off for this ambitious young team. Their coaches Tom and Dave wish to acknowledge and thank the assistance of Brian Kennedy who conducted a number of their coaching sessions, passing on valauble tips which was evident in their tactical approach to all games. They now look forward to 2015/2016 season in the NDSL B-division and the new challenges it will bring. Well done to all for a memorable season, flying the flag for Celtic for which you should be proud of yourselves.
