Celtic\'s DDSL Under-14A1 make it 20 wins on the bounce
Castleknock Celtic’s DDSL Under-14A1 side had a short trip northside to meet Ballymun United for the third time in the last four months. Their last meeting was the final of the Gerry Murphy Cup which was won by Celtic. It was a difficult and challenging match as Ballymun sought to avenge their Final defeat, and the hosts took an early lead when they were awarded a very soft penalty. Celtic responded well however and created a succession of chances through midfielders Jay Harper, David Onitiu (captain) and Ben Traynor, setting up opportunities for Bart Pintal and Ethan Murphy. Ballymun were also creating chances, but Celtic were grateful for some stout defending by Keith O\'Hanlon and Diamantino Marcu in the centre, while full backs Laurenz Uy and Jack D\'Arcy were in resilient mode. Kyle Roberts was a towering presence who was helping to break down any threats from Ballymun.
Celtic did draw level before half time when a great interchange between David Onitiu and Jay Harper sent Onitiu through on the flank. His cross was met by Bart Pintal who hit the target, leaving the sides level at half time.
Morgan Kynes joined the fray after the break, while Ben Traynor moved from the left to the right side of midfield, and it almost led to an early dividend for Celtic when Ben Traynor and Bart Pintal combined to set up David Onitiu who went within a whisker of scoring.
Celtic’s second goal came when a long ball from Kyle Roberts was helped on by Jack and his pass to Jay Harper was duly dispatched to the net with a powerful shot from 18 yards that the keeper could not keep out.
With minutes remaining, David Onitiu, who had played a captain’s part, got possession on the half way line and crossed for Morgan Kynes who scored after his initial effort was parried by the Ballymun keeper.
So Celtic get their league campaign off to a successful start and this win stretched their winning run to 20 on the bounce.
Coaches Oleg Girbu and Marius Onitiu were full of praise for their players who had put in a strong performance against a dogged opposition.
