Celtic’s Under-14A1 took on Peaumont United on a wet Saturday afternoon with their minds set on another victory, which would have brought the winning sequence to 21. But it wasn't to be this time because Peaumount proved very plucky opposition right up until the final whistle.
Castleknock went at Peaumont from the off, as they launched attack after attack. They created a host of chances with captain David Onitiu at the heart of most of the attacks. But it was a day when the ball just would not go in, with shots raining in from Bart P., Ben T., and Diamantino M, all of which were saved by the outstanding Peamount goalkeeper. Chris A. had a shot from outside the box which hit the crossbar and was cleared away by the visitors’ defence.
As half time approached, David O got possession of the ball at the half way line. He dribbled through the midfield and shot, but was denied by the excellent Peamount keeper, but the ball dribbled over the line for the lead for the home side.
Everything looked bright at the start of the second half with Castleknock on the attack again with David Onitiu hitting the post, Morgan missing by a whisker, and Ayo's shot missing the target. With the time passing Peamount started to press and create chances but the Celtic defence of Lawrenz Uy, Keith, Conor and Jack holding firm. But the persistence of Peamount was to pay off with five minutes left on the clock when following a save from the Celtic goalie Stephen Mason, the Celtic defence failed to clear the ball and conceded a penalty, which Peamount converted. 1-1 and Celtic were left scratching their heads. Special mention is however due to Jack and Lawrenz for their special defensive efforts to keep Peamount at bay.
Castleknock Celtic: Stephen Mason, Lawrenz Uy, Keith O'halon, Connor O'Leary, Jack D'Arcy, Kyle Roberts, Diamantino Marcu, David Onitiu (capt), Chris Alli, Ben Traynor, Bart Pintal. Subs: Morgan Kynes and Ayo Mide
