NDSL U18 Premier: Having won the U17A Division last season, the now U18 Premier Squad resumed league football today in the same manner as they finished as U17s. Today saw of mix of the old with new, as new signing Ben Byrne opened the scoring whilst last season’s top scorer Cory Power also contributed with a well-placed shot past the Swords goalkeeper.
However, it wasn’t just about the goal scorers the defence, led by Captain David Hickey ensured that Swords scoring chances were minimal, in midfield Ruairi O’Flaherty, David McCabe, Matthew Mullen, Jack Monahan & Aidan Sampson dominated. Up front the aforementioned Power and Daniel Ferreira were a constant threat.
All 18 players in the squad had some game time today ensuring that the Management team of Keith Healy & Enda Mullen don’t have it easy when it comes to selection time.
