HHFC 0, Castleknock Celtic 1
Castleknock made the short journey to Hartstown Park for this local derby. To put the game in perspective, Castleknock were U17A League Champions last season whilst HHFC were U17 Premier Champions and beaten cup finalists. However, during the transfer window Castleknock had secured the signatures of two key players of the HHFC squad.
With players on both teams familiar with members of the opposition, there were “bragging” rights at stake, as well as 3 points. After last week’s win the management team thought that they would have a selection headache. Unfortunately injuries to 2 players in a mid-week friendly eased the selection worries.
Castleknock were quick to start and from early on were in control in all areas. The breakthrough came after 30 minutes when Ciaran Buggy blasted the ball into the back of the HHFC net after some good midfield play between Aidan Sampson & Matthew Mullen.
Some key substitutions at half time ensured that Castleknock remained in control for the second half. Indeed, it was the efforts the HHFC goalkeeper which ensured the score remained at 1-0 until the final whistle.
