Torrential rain didn't stop these two footballing teams entertain the crowd that gathered to watch this game this afternoon in Saint Anne's park. Both teams had drawn their first games.
It was Castleknock that started the better with their slick passing game. Raheny took time to get to the pace of the Castleknock game. It was a very even contest with 15 minutes to go to half time. Raheny opened the scoring with an effort from distance which found its way into the net.
After the half time break, the Castleknock guys went out with a resurgence and pace that caught the Raheny team off guard. Within 13 minutes Castleknock were level with a well timed run by Tim Kelly into the box and he was taken down for a penalty. Step up Conor Troy and the goal was scored with aplomb.
After this goal Castleknock took the game to hosts. With sustained pressure the no 7 from Raheny was second yellowed and now it was all Castleknock. It took patience from the Castleknock lads who kept passing the ball around. Finally with 2 minutes left on the clock, Mark Brasil with a perfectly weighted pass found Liam Kelly who had found space between the two central defenders and he slotted the ball past the oncoming goalkeeper. A well deserved win indeed which was the result of good work all around the pitch in very difficult conditions. A special mention to the stand-in keeper Ben mc who commanded his box like s pro. Onwards and upwards lads.
