Castleknock superb in battle of the Celts. 5-1 home victory v Finglas Celtic.
The kids have to be in school on Monday so we were asked by the parents to keep this report short so they could get to bed early Sunday!!!
After a good week of training the players were asked to adapt to a new formation of 1-3-3-2 and to be more attacking. With Dawide Biernat missing though injury (broken thumb) and Dylan Thompson through illness it was 11 to go into battle.
Bradley Creighton in goals, Jake Rice, Lee Canavan and Adam Geraghty in defence, Cian DaCosta, Dylan Osborne and Dylan Coyne in midfield and Josh Holland and Evan Ryan up front. Ethan O’Reilly and Knemjjika Onwemrhe ready to support play.
So in a nutshell the match went like this. Kick Off, all Castleknock Celtic and 60 seconds gone a Dylan Coyne shot saved. Then some more fine play and Adam Geraghty with another good shot saved by the keeper. Evan Ryan tried his luck but could not get the header on target from a fine Nkemjika cross. Evan, confidence up, strong and unlucky with a shot after holding off the strong centre half for Finglas. It was like Mr Probz on the pitch, wave after wave of attacking play. Dylan Coyne again with a shop going top corner but saved. 2 minutes later Dylan Coyne again shot saved. Then Lee decided to who the strikers what to do, pick the ball up from defence, quick 1-2 with Dylan C in midfield, power forward but shot just wide. All Castleknock but Finglas did get into the Castleknock Half and won a free kick. Adam G tried telling the players to move up and remember offside but the Finglas players would not have been offside in the car park, the Castleknock players were so deep. Sure enough, ball in, Bradley with a great punch out but volleyed back into the back of the net. 1-0 on the stroke of half time and in the team came for some drinks.
Message from the coaches was keep playing and the goals will come, 5 of them to be precise said one of the coaches. So same pattern but Castleknock were even better in the second half. A free early in the second half and Dylan Coyne stepped up. 5 players on the line and a wall of 3 in the way but no way was Dylan C going to be stopped. With his fan club on the side line (Zac and James) Dylan smashed the ball over the wall and in of the crossbar. 1-1 and tails up. Number 2 was a fantastic team goal. Adam G and Dylan C with a quick corner, 3 quick passes between them and ball into Evan, quick ball back and Adam into Cian who powered the ball home. 2-1. Next turn Evan who got the goal his running deserved 3-0 with a cool as you like finish. Nkem was studying the play and decided he would have a goal and drilled it home. 4-1. Bradley, looking on from defence decided to move up like Baresi and following a dummy turned and smashed the rebound home. 5-0.
So a great performance and too many good moves to mention. Some fantastic performances all over the pitch. Adam, Bradley and Evan like a seamstress on the left, they had it sown up. Ethan, Jake, Nkemjika and Josh, sponsored by Clingfilm, they had the right side wrapped up. Dylan O, Cian & Lee like Bruce Springsteen in the middle, bossing it and then there was the Man of The Match. If Conor McGregor played soccer he would play like Dylan Coyne played today: strong in the tackle, full of energy start to finish, clever with the ball teasing the opposition and a trademark finish. So well done Dylan C. 5-1 it ended, another good call by the coach and look forward to practice Monday.
