Celtic fight all the way to take the spoils in the battle of the Liffey
The Under 12A side built on their away draw last week, beating Lucan United one nil at Porterstown Park on Saturday in a keenly contested match. Celtic, without Scott Sorohan because of injury were captained by Brian Carolan on the day and credit goes to Brian who worked as a captain should throughout the match.
As is often the case at this level the first half was tight and at times frantic, but learning from their experience of the first couple of matches this season, Celtic dug in and defended solidly with James Dauda Sam and Ben N resolute at the back. Good chances for either side were thin on the ground and the half finished 0-0.
In the second half Celtic settled the quicker and started to play the better football but Lucan stood firm. Malik, Eric, Ben M and Cillian all going close with half chances but it took a moment of quality from Ciaran Murtagh to split the teams and put Celtic in front. As the ball came out from a Celtic attack down the right, Ciaran composed himself took a touch to set himself up and proceeded to flight the ball into the far top corner from all of 25 yards.
Thereafter the heat was turned up and a physical battle developed again as Lucan pressed for an equaliser, playing three upfront for the final 10 minutes. The referee even had to reach for his top pocket on a couple of occasions to stop things boiling over. In spite of this Celtic kept their shape and discipline at the back very well, and but still had to rely on some last-ditch defending from Man of the Match Dauda Danson to keep Lucan at bay and see out a well deserved victory. Dauda didn't put a foot wrong all day showing strength, composure and technical ability in equal measure.
A great win for the team and something to building on for next week.
