Castleknock Celtic 1 - 0 Woodlawn Sportslink
When Woodlawn Sportslink came to Porterstown last season, they were riding high in the U17 Premier division.
Ultimately they would finish as league runners up, and cup champions, beating Celtic in the semi-final. The score-line that day wasn't reflective of the play as Celtic dominated for long periods and held Woodlawn scoreless until the 82nd minute.
So, when Woodlawn arrived this morning, revenge wasn't the motive . . . . . setting the record straight was.
A delayed kick off on a poor pitch, with persistent rain meant this match was never going to be a spectacle. Celtic with an almost full squad were in control in defence and midfield but couldn’t make the breakthrough up front.
A couple of switches in personnel and formation saw the energetic Shane McDonagh introduced in a forward role. It proved to be an inspired substitution as McDonagh was on the scoresheet within 5 minutes of his introduction.
Despite continued dominance throughout the second half, and a number of half chances, Celtic couldn’t extend their lead. Final score 1-0.
With three games played in the new season Celtic have maximum points and a defence that has yet to concede a goal. The action next week moves from the league to the FAI Youth Cup with a match against old rivals Swords Manor.
