Celtic off to a bright start with victory over Ardmore
Celtic spent their preparation time for this game sight-seeing. Fortunately it was beautiful scenery on a gorgeous morning with the Sun splitting the stones. The problem was that the director of operations had forgotten the smartphone and the travelling party was left floundering at the foothills of the Wicklow Mountains. But Dame Fortune eventually smiled and they found their destination of Ardmore Rovers.
It was therefore straight into the action, and this is a plucky group which saw them competing from the start. Darius Harincar never put a foot wrong and stopped everything that Ardmore could throw at him. Daniel Hanrahan and shto Raman were magnificent throughout, tackling and clearing their lines when required. All across the park, Celtic were competing. Artyom Averyanov, Devang Mehta, and Kamil Suchomski were all combative. Myles McCague didn’t put a foot wrong in his left full position, clearing well. Matthew Coughlan was always in the thick of it, involved in many of the attacks. Yusuf Morsy did his job in the middle of the park closing down the opponents, while Angelo Harincar was making life difficult for the defenders, and he was unlucky with his shot on goal in the second half. Man of the match was Gentian Ramadani whose wizardry in the middle of the park had the Ardmore opponents at sixes and sevens. It was however the finishing of the Celtic strikers that proved the difference in the end because Ardmore had spurned at least 4 gilt edged chances. Celtic’s first goal was a deft flick into the net from 5 yards by Ryan Shields who was impressive with his touches throughout. 10 minutes from time it was Ahmed Shah in his first competitive association football game who raced into the box and shot low and hard into the far corner to make it 2-0 and a great start for his team’s league campaign.
They now look forward to training on Monday at 6.30pm. Well done to the whole squad.
