Castleknock Celtic 7 Swords Manor 0
Today in a break from league duties, in a warm and sunny Porterstown Park the Under 18A’s lined out in the FAI Youth Cup.
Celtic opened their account within three minutes when Callum Carberry finished off a neat passing move between Shane McDonagh, Ciaran Buggy and Carberry himself. Despite total domination in all areas the score line remained at 1-0 until half time.
After the restart, Carberry doubled his tally as he finished a cross from close quarters. This second goal was just the start that Celtic needed as a number of the Swords players seemed to lose interest at this point. The goals continued to flow with defender Ben Byrne adding a third before Swords conceded an own goal to make it 4-0.
Darren Doyle who was causing havoc in the Swords defence was rewarded for his efforts to make it 5-0. Celtic weren’t finished and when a Matthew Mullen corner was cleared by the Swords defence, Mullen picked up the loose ball near the touch line and curved a shot from all of 20 metres into the top corner of the goal past the floundering Swords goalkeeper.
If the sixth goal looked spectacular, the seventh and final was the best of the lot. Midfielder, Aidan Sampson in typical fashion, broke from midfield before placing an inch perfect pass to Shay Kinsella who in turn moved the ball to Shane McDonagh who made a final pass to Ciaran Buggy who blasted the ball into the back of the Swords net.
Sometimes a 7 – 0 score line can be a bit flattering, not today. This was an excellent team performance by Castleknock Celtic in particular during the second half where they pushed on and made hay while the sun shone.
