Leinster F.A. Youth Cup
Castleknock Celtic 5, Grange Woodbine 1
For the second week in a row the U18A’s were on Cup duty. Last week, the FAI Youth Cup, this week the Leinster F.A. Youth Cup. The rules of these competitions differ fundamentally from our normal league fixtures in the NDSL as far as substitutions are concerned. In the NDSL, we have a roll on / roll off system with unlimited substitutions. This is such a success, the DDSL introduced it this season. Consequently, any kid who turns up for a game on Sunday can realistically expect a decent amount of game time.
However in the FAI & Leinster FA Youth Cups, substitutions are limited to a maximum of 3 per game, meaning that a lot of kids won’t get any game time. This rule really needs to be examined, after all this is schoolboy football where participation should be a priority.
Anyway, you can see from above Celtic won 5-1 with goals from Darren Doyle (2), Tom Fitsimons (a perfect answer to the “verbals” from the opposition), Aidan Sampson & Ciaran Buggy.
