Castleknock 1 Donnybrook 5
Don,t be fooled by the score of this one. The team were for the most part of this game the better team. True, Donnybrook had some strong individuals and had some pace at the top of the pitch, but it was Castleknock who made the passes and tried to find good possession when possible.
Donnybrook took the lead after 10 mins with a breakaway goal following a long ball to the striker who outpaced the defender 1.0.
This was to prove to be a theme of Donnybrook's play throughout the game. Castleknock came back strongly and were dominating open play. Jessie started in goal with Simon, Owen B and Ross Kennedy at the back, and were lways looking to play out from the back and then moving to support their wide players. Eoghan S who is captain for the month continued the style of play. in the middle Declan O'Malley was his usual midfield dynamo self, supported on either side by Connor, Cormac, and Danny, Chesne.
David Francis and Salinm shared the attacking options. Donnybrook made it 2 before half time with a route one goal. In the second half Celtic were putting together some nice moves, players finding space and moving the ball quickly. One of these attacks led to the Castleknock goal,a fine interchange setting up Chesney to equalise.
Celtic then piled on the pressure and Jessie who was now up front went close. As the team tired, Donnybrook's long ball game again paid dividends and they scored a couple more goals before the end. Danny picked up a bad knock but the good news is he will be back in action soon, and we wish him a speedy recovery. And so the game came to an end with an unfair scoreline. However this coach knows that the long ball game only has short term successs. By practising our passing and movement and by learning how to constuct our play through the thirds of the pitch, this team will be well able to defend against long ball opponents in a season or two. The question is wiil they be able to defend against us!! Well played and see you all at training.
