Celtic have been putting a lot of work in on the training ground in the last few weeks, all technical stuff, practising their passing and moving the ball as quickly as possible, learning some new stuff like set up passes and how important it is to make a decision when you have the ball.
Today it all came right for this young team. Knocklyon came into the game on the back of 4 straight wins, but from the first whistle to the last Celtic were the better team. Celtic got about the Knocklyon team, never giving them a second on the ball and when the ball was won back, players found space to find their passes and get into good areas of the pitch, indeed this free flowing football led to the first goal. Cormac, who had a very good game, got on the ball just inside the Knocklyon half and his mazy run took him by a few defenders and around the keeper, teeing up Chesney for a tap in.
Prior to this Declan O'Malley broke into the penalty ares only to see his shot come back off the upright. Celtic were passing the ball beautifully and when the ball was lost, they worked hard to regain possession.
The second goal came 10 mins before half time. Some neat passing set up Cormac just outside the box and his shot flew into the top corner. It was no more than Celtic deserved.
In the second half the game became a bit scrappy in periods but Celtic always kept their shape and Knocklyon never really threatened, largely due to the defending of Simon and Ross and Eoghan. In fact Celtic could have scored more. Danny set up Declan who was again unlucky to hit an upright when one on one and Chesney doing likewise. Simon had a free kick blocked on the line and it was the away team hanging on at the end to keep the score down.
So a first league win of the season and very much deserved. Team line-up: Jessie, Simon, Eoghan, Ross, Declan, Danny. Connor, Cormac, Chesney and Salim. Well done lads, and see you at training on Tuesday. match action
