Grangewoodbine visited Porterstown Park confident that their winning run would continue. They had defeated Celtic comfortably a couple of weeks ago, but today Celtic matched them in most departments, with the crucial exception of the scoreline.
Grangewoodbine gradually built up a 3-0 lead as they took their chances. The first was a rocket from the edge of the box that flew into the net over Celtic's keeper Theo Hennessy. Their second was a fine shot into the far corner of the goal that Theo had no chance to save. Their third was a shot from close range that seemed to have put them out of sight. But you have to credit Celtic's players who fought like tigers to get back into the game.
Ren Mulligan was covering every blade of grass and was taking possession and pushing forward, setting up attacks and going close to scoring. He had a great game. He was joined in the second half by his brother Rei who took his chance coolly when he shot home from close range to make the score 1-3. Joseph Dunne was his reliable self at the back putting in lots of tackles, while Ahmad Nazai was in great form and his performance earned him the man of the match award. Costel Burlacu and James Bannerman were like 2 dynamos in the middle of the park, constantly putting in courageous tackles against guys twice their size. Ruben Aherne was leading the attack well. Conor Lawless took over this role and was unluckly not to get on the scoresheet with his shot on goal. Mohamad Dafallah showed deft touches in the middle of the park, finding his team mates with his passes. Throughout the game, Pedro Mineros showed his wide range of skills beating his opponents and being very unlucky today with his shots on goal that whizzed over the crossbar.
It was a great performance by the lads today, and we must thank Craig McGivern the team coach whose sessions are delivering results that were reflected in each of the players in this game against a very useful and sporting Grangewoodbine team.
