Celtic had to go to Lourdes missing 3 key players, and it was day for everyone to stand up and be counted at a Ground which is never an easy ride.
Captain Sabin Ghet set the tone with early bravery and a superb save at point blank range as Lourdes settled quicker on their own turf. Celtic fought back gradually, creating a number of chances for the tireless Fabian Wolski, who benefited from excellent ball winning and distribution from the 3 man engine room of Tristan, Dino & Brendan. With the back four of Hammad, Chuk, Darren & Kacem keeping things tight, Celtic eventually broke Lourdes down with a superb through ball releasing Fabian for a run on goal to create the assist for Scott Doyle to finish neatly into the corner.
The second half was just as tight, with Celtic showing massive character in repelling Lourdes attempts at a comeback. Sabin was called upon on again to deny two or three good opportunities for Lourdes, but it was Brendan Stangu, Great Imole & Danny O'Mahoney causing Lourdes the most damage on the counter, creating a string of chances that Great eventually converted to seal the win. Alasdair added the security of the 5th defender for the final minutes as Celtic saw the game out.
Credit to Lourdes for their passion and hospitality. Always a pleasure to play Lourdes teams. A day for heroes was epitomised by Brendan & Darren who showed huge emotion and passion in ensuring their team came out on top.
