Halloween Firewoks as Celtic hit Ballyouster for Six”
Having moved up two divisions Celtic had been finding life tough with only one win in six but there were signs over the past few weeks that they were starting to gel and sometime soon they would produce the goods on the pitch. Whether it was the hard work put in on the training ground or the witching season of Halloween today was the day Celtic lit the fireworks.
From the start they were alive. From back to from they were solid. Ryan “Maccer” Mc Gregor and Ryan Sherlock set the tone at the back with Luke Hughes, Andre Ungareanu and Ben Forde providing the creativity for Caitlin Labont to strut his stuff. With Castleknock on form goals would come and come they did.
First up Andre fired the Celts ahead and then “Stevie G” Forde made it two. Ballyouster battled back to make it 2-1 but Celtic were in no mood to surrender their lead as they restored their two goal lead when following a great run Captain, Esse Okirikpo, found Ivan Hristov who finished in style. HT: 1-3.
Despite the lead Coach Sherlock was clearly concerned that fatigue might take hold and produced some energy bars (Chocolate Fredos !!!) to his charges. The sugar boost meant it was more of the same in the second half with Celtic always in control and it wasn’t long before the lead was three. Luke Hughes’ corner was met with a powerful header but the only debate was whose head it was with both Andre and Ben both bravely attacking the ball. Credit to Ballyouster who never gave up and the Kildare lads battled back to score a deserved goal to make it 2-4.
The three goal lead was restored when “Lucky Luke” powered the ball home to make it 5-2 following good work by Ivan. Just before the end the favour was repaid as Ivan made it six with this time Luke being the provider. FT: 2-6.
And so a deserved win for the Boys in Green and a just reward for their efforts in recent weeks. The Boys were thrilled with themselves and so they should be but let’s just hope this was not just a Haloween Wonder. Clearly Everton took note of the Celtic Boys efforts as the “Toffees” replicated the lads efforts by putting six goals past hapless Sunderland. The Coaches were well pleased with the Boys performance and while all 9 players put in a sterling performance we have to give a special mention to Ben for his wonderful display and to Captain Courageous (Esse) who bravely lined out for the team while clearly still not fully fit. Well done all.
