Castleknock Celtic 3 Lakelands 0
Celtic recorded their second home win of the season with a strong performance over their southside rivals. The early afternoon kick off meant the rain had cleared before the start and the entertainment began in pleasant sunshine.
And that's exactly what it was.The game began with Celtic on top and despite some good possession the breaks were not falling the home team's way. When they did find the net the goal was ruled out for off side. This did not stop Francis from celebrating however, but have no fear, Francis had plenty to celebrate later.
The training ground throw-ins were causing problems for Lakelands and the corners were also causing havoc in the away team's defence. Celtic were building the play on both flanks and getting lots of crosses into the box but could not find the breakthrough. David was leading the line and his pace and willingness to work for the ball were good, while on the flanks, Cormac and Francis were finding good areas of space and full backs Eoin B and Ross, who captained the team, were supporting the player in front of them all match. Simon was his usual impressive self while Chesney kept the shape of the team by holding his position in midfield. Declan seems to have developed some type of cloning machine as he gets around the pitch so fast you would think there were 2 of him!!
The team was freshened up midway through the first half with the introduction of Salim up front and Daniel coming on the left hand side, with Eoghan S and Conor adding their skills to the team.
In the second half Celtic piled on the presusre and the breakthrough came 10 mins into the half, some good play on the flank by Eoghan S found Francis in space and his set-up pass found Conor onside in the box and he made no mistake with his finish. GOAL!!! From the restart, Celtic nearly got through again but for some last ditch defending.
Celtic were dominating all over the pitch now and it was no surprise when the second goal came and what a goal it was. Simon under pressure facing his own goal played the ball back to Jessie in goal who cleared into the Lakelands' half. As the ball was dropping, David flicked the ball into the path of Declan who had started his run from mid field, and he finished in fine style when through on goal. GOAL!!!
The third goal soon followed. GOAL!!! Francis set up Cormac, who found the space to get his shot away on the edge of the box to put the gloss on a good individual performance. So it finished 3-0 and a really good team performance. A special word has to go to Jessie in goal, not only is he good at shot stopping but his distribution of the ball is excellent. Finally back to Francis who can celebrate his 2 assists and some neat passing. Well done all, lots of improving left to do but definitely on the right path. See you all on Tuesday.
