This week’s game made for tense viewing for the parents and spectators on the side line. The game was billed as a match between two strong teams near the top of their league and so it proved. Castleknock started off the match in a sleepy mood which was to catch up on them as Knocklyon scored an early goal. The match got bogged down in midfield and only occasionally sparked into life. Tristan Browne put himself about in midfield and was ably assisted by Klevis Malaj who had a good goal attempt smothered by the Knocklyon goalie. At the other end Tom Maxwell had a brave headed clearance to keep the score at 1-0. Meanwhile in goal Sabine Ghet was kept busy and the score remained unchanged at halftime.
Castleknock had to come out fighting in the second half if they were to secure any points from this game!
They didn’t disappoint their supporters and a new look fired-up team appeared after the break. The second half got under way with numerous goal attempts from Scott Daly, Klevis Malaj, Great Imole and Fabian Wolski. Sabine was now in defence and showed his normal no holds barred style of play and he and his defensive team mate Tom Maxwell kept Castleknock in the game. Knocklyon had their fair share of goal attempts too, Tristan Browne took over the goal keeping duties in the second half and made some excellent saves. Eventually Castleknock got on the scoreboard with a goal from the boot of Callum Oliphant who pounced on a mix up in the Knocklyon defence with eight minutes of the game remaining. This goal seemed to lift both the team and the supporters with the team raising their performance level and the supporters raising the decibel level. More opportunities followed with Adam Nolan stopped only by a brave dive at his feet by the Knocklyon goalie. The game ended with Castleknock applying consistent pressure and Knocklyon must have been glad to hear the final whistle.
Watching this Castleknock team can be hard on your nerves but what a great way to spend a Saturday morning!
