Most matches had been cancelled this weekend for good reason with a storm force wind predicted however the U11Bs of Castleknock Celtic and St John Boscos managed to play some good quality football in their league match played out at the NAC.
It was a great credit to both sides that they wanted to try to play passing football despite the conditions. Castleknock proved too strong on the day with a first half performance with the wind at their backs that set the tone for the game. It was a great rearguard effort from Boscos from the start but eventually the pressure began to pay as the Castleknock players started to find their feet and play some great one touch football.
The breakthrough came after 15 mins when good interpassing between David Strappe and Calum Gormley led to a thunderous shot from Finn White which flew into the top corner following a deflection off the head of the Bosco defender. This led to the flood gates opening and Castleknock got two more goals from David Strappe and Frankie Hennessy before half time. The third goal was especially good involving three different 1-2's before Frankie finished with a volley to the bottom corner.
The start of the second half saw Boscos with the help of the wind start to increase the pressure but the defence of Dylan Clark, Cian Hegarty and Finn White never put a foot wrong. As usual anything that did get through was dealt with by our excellent keeper Callum Sheridan who made 3 good saves when called upon. The fourth goal came following a great run from Cian Hegarty after a passing movement between Jack Littleton and Michael Wiley. Frankie got possession and he whipped the ball across the goalmouth where it was finished with ease by Cian who had followed up the play.
This quenched any Bosco fightback and Celtic dominated the rest of the game with Reece Harper upfront doing a fair amount of damage with good skill and lay offs. The 5th goal came from a rebounded shot that Calum Gormley slotted home to wrap up the 3 points. A late Boscos goal following good interplay did not spoil the party as Castleknock Celtic head back to the summit of the table with 2 games remaining. Two more victories and the league (and promotion) will be secured prior to Christmas. Now that would be a great present from SANTA !!
Great football guys match action
