Celtic had to grind out this victory over a plucky Drogheda Boys in Porterstown in this opening game of the new Elite 2 League. After 18mins, it was 1-0 to Celtic. A short corner to Owen who crossed to Luke Kelly at the back post. His strike was parried by the GK on to the toe of a combative Kevin Joshua who scrambled the ball over the line.
A minute later, it was 2-0 when Daniel Byrne's free kick swung over the GK and into the top right corner - a beauty.
With half time approaching, the Drogs were back in it when a ball over the top left the Striker free and he finished well.
The goals kept coming and it was Ciaran McGarry was lightning quick when he swooped for the third after a 1-2 with Vilius Labutus.
Just before half time, a delicate free kick over the wall and high into the net left the narrowest of margins between the teams..

6 minutes after the break, it was a quick counter attack down the left handside with the inform Ciaran McGarry breaking away from the defender with power and pace. He swung in a beautiful low cross from the left sideline which right winger Adam Neto met with a cracking low drive and it was 4-2 to Celtic.
On 21 mins, Drogheda made it 4-3 after Celtic cracked under pressure.
On 29 mins, Drogheda went to 3 at the back and forced Celtic deep into their own half, but once again Celtic broke at speed and an almost identical finish to his first one, Mcgarry swivelled and caught the ball on the half volley and finished with a thunderous drive over the GK and into the net. A hard fought victory.
