Celtic travelled to Tallaght to take on St Maelruans in Round 1 of the Dublin Bus Cup. It was to be a "long day" as some might say. Celtic got off to a solid start and were competing well, but a fine strike by one of the big Maelruans lads was an omen. They struck thrice more to leave the visitors on the ropes. A break by the Celtic striker, Angelo Horincar, ended with the Maelruan's defender flooring him and a penalty was awarded. Ryan Brady stepped up confidently and smashed it into the bottom corner. 1-4 at half time.
Celtic competed better in the second half and conceded another. Celtic could not reduce the deficit. In the end Celtic had to concede that they were second best by a distance to a team made up of some burly lads who outmusceled them.
Celtic's Man of the Match award was shared by Gentian Ramadani and Rashid Elmowag who battled from start to finish as they tried valiantly to keep the tide of Maelruans attacks at bay.
Celtic must not let the defeat undermine their recent progress, which can continue with focus and dedication, restarting again on Thursday at training.
