Castleknock Celtic climbed to the top of the league with a convincing 3-1 win against WFTA. However they didn't have it all their own way and it took two goals in the final 15 minutes to settle the contest at Porterstown Park. Action from game https://plus.google.com/u/0/
Castleknock 13A have only lost one competitive game this season and are getting better with every kick of the ball in what is a tightly contested league. This is a team that always plays out from the back and wears down the opponents with their crisp passing game by maintaining possession for long spells and this game was no different but it was always going to be a battle against a resilient WFTA side. Castleknock pressed from the off but it wasn't until the 23rd minute that they broke the deadlock, which came from a Ciaran McGarry free kick that evaded everyone as it rolled into the right hand corner of the WFTA net. Castleknock pressed for a second but couldn't break down the WFTA defence and it was WFTA who were next to get on the score sheet, with a well taken strike by Lee Lynch from outside the box just before the stroke of half time.
The second half started in the same fashion as the first with Castleknock maintaining possession for long spells. Michael Afuye, Ciaran McGarry and Ugi Rowland all had chances to put Celtic ahead while WFTA themselves had several chances to nudge in front. It wasn't until the 60th minute that Castleknock finally went ahead and again from a free kick, which was hit by Charles Mutawe from 20 yards, a powerful effort that was too hot for the WFTA keeper to handle and Michael Afuye was on hand to tap in a well deserved second goal for Celtic. A late strike by Brian Dalton from substitute Kevin Long's dazzling run and cross settled the contest and gave Celtic 3-1 win to move them to the top of the DDSL 13A League.
