Celtic travelled to Knocklyon Utd for their latest league game with a squad of 12 players all looking to do the double over their rivals, having won the first game at Porterstown. The game began with Celtic getting their passing game going and creating some half chances, but didn’t really trouble the Knocklyon keeper. Charlie was on net minding duty for Celtic and dealt with everything very comfortably. Simon captained the team and played solidly at the back with the improving Ross and Daniel on either side, Connor and Danny played on the flanks with Declan and Owen B in centre, while Saleem was tasked with playing up front. 10 mins in, Celtic had a great chance to take the lead but the forward could not get on the end of the cross. Knocklyon then stole possession in Celtic’s last third and the deflected shot found the bottom corner.1.0 Knocklyon.
Celtic completely bossed the first 15 mins of the second half, Eoghan S and Connor had joined the fray at the midway point of the first half and worked hard throughout the game, as indeed did all 12 men. Celtic got behind the home team’s defence several times but just could not find the net. 20 mins into the second the Knocklyon striker struck a volley that was heading for the top corner only for Charlie to produce an outstanding one handed save that had everyone applauding.
Celtic pushed on for the last 10 mins but the final whistle went to give a very relieved Knocklyon all 3 points. Celtic can feel a bit unlucky to lose this game as they were the better team for most of the game and everyone is making good progress. Special mention has to go to Charlie, playing his first EVER game in goal today, he was absolutely outstanding, quick off his line and really good distribution as well and good shot-stopping. Top class, Charlie well done. See you all Monday.
