Mid Sutton 1 Castleknock Celtic 3
Celtic had to battle hard against a dogged Mid Sutton team to book their place in the semi-final of the Kavanagh Farrell Cup. On a pitch in St Anne’s Park that would be more suited to grazing cattle, it was never going to be a game in which Celtic could play their usual passing game.
Celtic’s first goal came from Callum Carberry who turned quickly in a crowded penalty area after an excellent pass from Tom Fitzsimons. Callum placed a well struck shot in the corner of the net after 20 minutes. Just a few minutes later, Fitzsimons' shot from 20 yards deflected past the Mid Sutton keeper. Celtic were now in control of play with Aidan Sampson and Jack Monaghan dominating midfield.
Within a couple of minutes of the start of the second half, leading scorer, Cory Power was on hand to tap in to make it 3 – 0 to Celtic. Despite having a number of chances throughout the remainder of the second half, Celtic couldn’t extend their lead. Mid Sutton’s goal, 15 minutes from full time came about as a result of some sloppy defending in the Celtic penalty area.
