Celtic travelled to Shankill in South Dublin, exit 5 on the M11, turn left at the next round about and turn right at the Shanganagh Cemetery and you are there. The drizzly rain was persistent and made conditions for football difficult with the ball skidding off the surface.
Darius Horincar was in goal and did a fine job, making many brave saves. His positioning on the edge of the box is something he is working on which will add to his A-rated performances.
The full back berths were occupied by Kamil Suchomski and Ryan Shiels. They are both skilful players. Kamil has a lot of talent, and when he adds 100 per cent concentration to his game, he will be formidable. Ryan can find a pass, and today was no exception, he made good use of the ball when the opportunity arose. He will be keen to develop his tackling skills to make him an even better player.
In the middle of the defence, Myles McCague and Daniel Hanrahan were today's incumbents. Myles had one of his best games and made many incisive tackles, winning possession in crucial situations and releasing the ball to set up attacking situations. Daniel today was more defensive and put in the tackles before clearing his lines.
Karl Sampil was a contender for man of the match with his many impressive runs and for his goal early on. On the other flank, Ahmed Shah showed his finishing ability when he shot home to keep his side in touch.
In the middle, Matthew Coughlan is a man of many talents, and he is very creative which he showed today. He will be concentrating on his defensive qualities of tackling to bring his game forward.
Up front, Angelo Horincar was a contender for man of the match with his combative performance and Celtic were unlucky not to score with one of the chances he created with a deft pass. He partnered Gentian Ramadani who is one of the most gifted players at this level.
In the end, the result was decided before the game when Shankill conceded that because they had only 8 players to start, which became 9 later, they would concede the points to Celtic who had travelled south on such a miserable morning.
They now look forward to their next outing which is a home fixture against local side Verona, a tie that will generate a lot of interest in Dublin 15
