Celtic were delighted to come away with 3 points following their victory over local rivals Verona FC. Celtic had numerous chances in either half, but in the end, it was a wonderful goal from Ahmad Shah and a beautiful strike by Danny Sumila ensured the points were won by the Porterstown side. The first goal stemmed from Ryan Shiels being well-positioned to win the ball on the edge of the D. He found Ahmad who weaved his way past a succession of defenders before he unleashed a swerving shot that gave the Verona keeper no chance.
After the restart Verona fought hard to gain a foothold, but Celtic remained in control with the strong wind at the backs. Gentian Ramadani made a succession of surging runs and it was amazing that he was not rewarded with a goal. He hit the woodwork a couple of times and other shots were just wide. Ryan Brady was inches wide when his audacious lob over the keeper. Verona kept fighting to the end, and late on, they looked certain to pull one back but Myles McCague got back to prevent the shot on goal. Daniel Hanrahan the other central defender was on his game and kept Verona limited to very few shots on goal. Karl Sampil and Matthew Coughlan were combining well in midfield, while Angelo Horincar was leading the front line well and was unlucky not to get on the scoresheet. Darius Horincar kept a clean sheet and was seldom troubled by the Verona strikes.
Celtic are comfortably positioned in the mid table, but they will need to put in another battling performance next Saturday at home to league leaders St Mary's.
