In a delayed Saturday afternoon kick off in Porterstown, Celtic U-14A1 were in action against an unpredictable Mount Merrion, who were Celtic's victims in last season's Cup semi-final.
The match started with a goal after three minutes when Diamantino tapped in a cross from David Onitiu to open the scoring. Within five minutes, it was 2-0 when Jabari was much quicker than the opposing defence. All going to plan, however as Celtic switched off, it allowed Mount Merrion to get back into the game. With the pressure growing on our defence and with no help from the midfield, it wasn't long before Mount Merrion scored to make the score 2-1 at half time.
After the resumption, Mount Merrion kept pushing up as they chased the equaliser, but they were punished by Jabari who was on fire and he made it 3-1. Mount Merrion. The fourth goal was a replica of the third when Jay H. sprinted trough the visitors' defence which helped to restore calm among the home supporters. Heading towards the end of the match, super-sub Chris Ali scored the final goal to close out the game and to keep Celtic top of the league.
Full marks to Mount Merrion who fought throughout and they must feel that the 5-1 defeat flatters Celtic.
