“Porterstown thriller as Collinstown comeback wins the day ”
The leagues top two came together and produced a game worthy of their lofty league positions. The last time these teams played Collinstown won in the Cup with all their goals coming against the run of play. Well today the game started the opposite way as Celtic soaked up incessant pressure from the league leaders thanks mainly to the defensive efforts of Messrs Sherlock and Mc Gregor. It was therefore against the run of play that Celtic took the lead and what a fine goal it was as Andre Ungareanu went on a solo run from the half way line beating two players before powering a drive into the right hand corner. 1-0
With a goal advantage Celtic grew in confidence and it was they who looked the most likely. Caitlin La Bont and Andre were combining well while Captain James Browne was everywhere. A goal would come and midway through the half Celtic doubled their lead. Luke Hughes was fouled and the youngster dusted himself off before striking the ball into the net from 25 yards out. 2-0. Celtic could have increased their lead with Esse Okirikpo and Hughes both coming close. With half time only 2 minutes away the game was changed in 60 seconds. Collinstown broke and scored a good goal and a minute later the teams were level following good build up play and a bit of nice skill from their striker to make 2-2.
At half time the Celtic lads were a bit deflated but a fast start to the half would be crucial. From the off Celtic nearly restored their lead following a great solo run down the right from Ivan Hristov who having beat 3 players saw his shot shave the right hand post. Minutes later Ivan saw his well struck shot just go past the left hand post. Collinstown too were building momentum and finally took the lead 10 minutes into the half. 2-3. Collinstown pushed for a fourth and “Mad Max” made two fine saves before pressure told and it was 2-4. Celtics were down but never out and credit to the lads as they stuck to their task. Ben Forde saw his well struck free kick strike the wall, Ivan and Esse also had chances and then Luke nearly scored from the left following a good 1-2 with Ivan. Unfortunately time ran out as the Ref blew his final whistle.2-4.
Credit to Collinstown. Deserved League leaders and with a great comeback were deserved winners today……just, as Celtic showed that they are a team for the future with some excellent passages of passing play. This was a good display from the young Celts and they should take heart from their efforts. They are coming along just fine……WELL DONE LADS.
