Celtic made the final with a solid team performance, well-disciplined and playing sensibly to the game plan. The playing surface was a credit to hosts Sacred Heart, and the more consistent bounce allowed Dino Dervisic & Brendan Stangu in midfield to choose their passes carefully and exploit the many years experience of Great Imole, Klevis Malaj & Fabian Wolski playing together since graduating from Philip Zambra's Fundamental Football Academy. All of Philip's former stars would have made his Dad proud, Liam Hosford, Hammad Siddique, Danny O'Mahony, Alasdair Thom, Sabin Ghet, Kacem Touhiri & Coach Russ & (injured son Alex). Condolences to the Zambras.
Back to the action, & the critical goal was scored by Scott Doyle on the stroke of half time. Excellent delivery from Dino Dervisic from a corner won by Danny, left an unmarked Scott at the back post to finish clinically and leave Celtic with a 2-0 half time cushion to add to Fabian's earlier cool finish.
The second half was cut and thrust, with a strong Sacred Heart team testing Sabin on a few occasions, when the rock Chuck was beaten, or Darren, Kacem or Hammad were exposed by gaps in the Celtic midfield. The pace of Craig Hughes created two disallowed goals for Great & Brendan, and with Hearts getting stronger, it was a great relief to see Great Imole tuck a clever left foot finish into the net after another assist from Dino. Even though Hearts made a strong recovery with two superb goals, the match was secured by an acrobatic finish from Tristan Gris (Click to Download), captured on film by his enthusiastic family of supporters for posterity.
Well Done lads, credit to your attitude and team spirit as always. Back to League action next week.
