Stevie G” Forde steals points for Celtic with last minute strike
Following some strong performances Celtic came unstuck last week against League leaders, Collinstown, so the lads travelled to Dalkey to try and get back on track with a solid albeit without the inform midfield general James Browne.
Dalkey away was always going to be a tough game and it was Dalkey who started the stronger and duly took a 1-0 lead. Celtic were looking a little flat so it was down to the “Two Ryans” at the back, Messrs Sherlock and Mc Gregor together with another strong performance from keeper, “Mad Max” Ostapchuk to keep the deficit at one. As the half wore on Celtic started to move up a gear with Ben “Stevie G” Forde, Luke Hughes and Andrei Ungareanu working tirelessly in midfield. A goal duly came and it was the prolific Esse Okirikpo who showed his class to make it 1-1.
Fresh legs were introduced in the shape of Ivan Hristov and Caitlin Labont which meant that Dalkey were having to defend deeply. However the game remain delicately poised and a draw seemed to be the most likely result until the last minute when the game produced it’s one moment of magic. With only seconds left the ball was cleared by Dalkey before falling to Ben who did his best “Stevie” G” impression to date with a power drive into the corner a la Gerrard V West Ham in the FA Cup final a few years back. Cue wild celebrations as the final whistle was blown. FT: 2-1.
Heartbreak for poor Dalkey and you felt for their team as no one deserves to lose a game like that. This was not a classic and while it was Celtic who went home with the spoils both sets of players and their supporters should both be smiling after both teams had given their all.
