Deadly Double from Captain Fantastic and his SUPERHEROES sees off Quarryvale
So, away to Quarryvale and not the best of starts to the morning, lost boots, missing shin pads, tired heads, and that was just the parents. Was it a good sign? In the car on the way over, 4 of the players were talking about their HEROES from last night's football. Hoolahan running the show for Ireland, Sanchez putting England to the sword and Ronaldo getting the better of Ibrahamovic. Getting to the pitch with 2 minutes to spare, the players had a quick warm up, even quicker team talk and they were ready to do battle again. Led by Captain Dylan Thompson, only 7 could take to the pitch but the 3 on the side were chomping at the bit. A whirlwind start by Quarryvale saw them get 2 quick-fire corners. One was superbly delivered into the box by the Quarryvale No2. Neil Kirtane tried to clear but unfortunately it rebounded off his chest past Gideon in goal.
1-0 down after 1 minute, but Castleknock were not to be denied. It started with a driving run from Richard Ogu in midfield and POW! his thunderbolt shot was blocked with Neil Kirtane driving in the rebound. Great save by the keeper though denied Celtic, still 1-0. Quarryvale attacked again and SMASH! they hit the post, Gideon in goal saving the rebound. SHAZAM! Gideon, the goalkeeper was dribbling around the penalty box with 3 Quarryvale players surrounding him! The Coach is still trying to figure that one out…. CRUNCH! Yusuf el Morsy put his body on the line for the team, getting hit in the face with the ball. THUD! yet another header by Dylan Coyne in defence, clearing everything that got in his path. WHOOSH! Jesse Okpetu was in full flow clearing his lines left and right and holding Quarryvale at bay. BAM! Ross Kennedy getting stuck into a tackle in midfield. ZAP! Wesley Kupa driving up the right midfield showboating for his watching brother with a dragback. KABOOM, Owen Boyle was starting to set the pace in midfield, finding his range of passing and strong in the tackle.
It was only half time and the Coach was running out of Superhero words! 1-0 to Quarryvale and Castleknock were starting to play like their heroe s from Friday night. So with the wind at their back Castleknock immediately started to put Quarryvale under pressure. CRUNCH, a driving and very clever run from Dylan Thomspon came to an end when 2 Quarryvale players had no option but to foul him in the box. When running through on goal, Dylan switched the ball from his right foot onto his left foot to keep the ball away from the defenders coming from his right. It was great technique and if they tried to tackle him, it would have to lead to a PENALTY!!!!! to Castleknock, and it did. Wild celebrations on the sidelines and we did not even take it yet!!!! So, Dylan Thompson brushed himself down, and WOAHHHHHHH, he converted the penalty off the inside of the post. YEEEEEEEESSSS went the celebrations from the spectators and the players.
Quarryvale came back on the attack and KA-BAM, Jesse gave a karate kick clearance off the line which Jackie Chan would be proud of. Castleknock were getting opportunities to play in the striker, Dylan-dinho I think we ended up calling him, and a fine run and pass by Gideon saw him play in Dylan-dinho Thompson. WHOOOOSH! it was nestled in the back of the net before the keeper could move. 2-1 to Castleknock and the sideline spectators were starting to get giddy! Quarryvale pressed and Castleknock counter-attacked in a pulsating game of football. Right to the end, this game was in the balance but Castleknock held firm. PEEEEEEEEEEP the ref blew the whistle and you never saw celebrations like it from the players and proud parents on the sideline.
All players had a hand in what turned out to be a superhero performance. The Coach had to change the names on the Referees card after the match. So here are the new names:
Richard SPIDER MAN Ogu - Every shot stuck to him
Dylan ICEMAN Thompson - Cool as you like all day long
Neil STRETCH ARMSTRONG Kirtane - Getting a foot in from any distance
Dylan THOR Coyne - Power performance from head to toe
Gideon IRON MAN Durojaiye - I get knocked down, I get up again, your never gonna keep me down (parents will remember that one)
Owen HULK Boyle - A man mountain performance in midfield
Yusuf CAPTAIN AMERICA ElMorsy - Shielding his defence, strong in the tackle
Jesse SILVER SURFER Okpetu - No denying his near horizontal goal line clearance, it was great surf technique to catch a wave
Ross PROFESSOR X Kennedy - Always looking for ways to improve the team using the simple pass
Wesley WOLVERINE Kupa - Prowling on the right flank
SUPERHERO of the match was very tough to call. ICEMAN and THOR get particular mention but SIVLER SURFER pips them for his effort, concentration and sheer joy in winning.
With proud parents and coach on the sideline, it was a great day. However it is back to Earth on Monday for practice fellas. Out of this world. Well done.
