DDSL 11D Esker Celtic 3, Castleknock Celtic 1
Today was the last match of the pre-Christmas season and the occasion was marked by the team getting togged out in their new kit, a big thank you to our sponsor, West End Barbers and Neville Maxwell for organising the deal.
The game started with Castleknock looking like they had jumped straight out of ‘Vogue’. The previous match against Esker had been a close affair with Esker coming out on top of a tight tussle. Both teams created chances in the opening minutes and after good work on the right wing the ball landed at the feet of Scott Daly and true to form he notched the opening goal to the delight of his team mates and supporters. Esker responded by scoring a goal from a corner and the score was to remain 1-1 at half time.
As the second half opened Esker piled on the pressure creating goal chances but a combination of good saves and good defending kept the score level. Chances were created by Will Hennessy and Scott Daly but the score remained unchanged. Esker pushed forward and they got their second and third goals from two fantastic long range shots one of which was an unstoppable effort from all of 30 yards! The game ended 3 – 1.
Castleknock acquitted themselves well again today but luck was not with them and we could have no complaints with the final score.
We have had a season of real highs and lows but we have a fantastic bunch of lads who fight for their team mates and we all look forward to seeing them progress with the start of the second part of the season in the New Year. Well done all of you, you should be proud of your efforts and all the entertainment you have supplied to your rag tag band of supporters.
